The Yemeni capital of Aden hosted on Tuesday a meeting that discussed programs and plans designed to persuade more donors into financing agricultural and fishery projects in Yemen, and improving their productivity in the next stage, so as to keep in line with existing needs amid the conditions currently experienced by the country.
Bringing together the Yemeni internationally-recognized government's minister of agriculture and fisheries, Salem al-Socotri, and the executive director of the Executive Bureau for the Acceleration of Aid Absorption and Support for Policy Reforms, Dr. Afrah Al Zuoba, the meeting discussed a number of issues meant to improve performance of agricultural and fisheries sectors.
Al Zuoba highlighted future joint work programs and action plans aimed to encourage, and gain trust of, more donors to support different projects in agriculture and fisheries, and to upsurge local production amid the current developments.
Minister Socotri gave a short briefing on projects - already achieved or still in process - in infrastructure services, at top of which are Hassan Dam in Abyan, preparations to commence the project of Wadi Hajar Dam in Hadhramout, fishery unloading projects, the project of rescuing ships sunk in fishing port, and others.
The minister praised efforts exerted by Executive Bureau (EB) chairperson along with her team, and their interest to help agriculture, fisheries and the ministry's institutional building receive more donors' projects and interventions.
The meeting also discussed the ministry's strategic plan, proposals to develop its institutional structure with its satellite offices and agencies, as well as the ministry- jointly-EB developed plan including priorities that need attention; mostly institutional building, communication, media, information, the need to rehabilitate staff in key fields like follow-up, evaluation, statistics and English Language.
